The Salem Express was a passenger ship that sank in the Red Sea. Salem Express sank after hitting the reef at around 11:13 PM on Saturday, December 14, 1991.
Many passengers below deck went to the bottom. Those who managed to leave the ship had to fight large waves on the surface. Official figures say 180 people were saved and 470 killed. Unofficially, the rescue teams excavated 850 bodies during the three-day operation.
The wreck starts at 12 meters, the seabed is 30 meters deep. It is a huge wreck and requires at least two dives to explore.
The Salem Express is one of the largest wrecks in the Egyptian Red Sea, comparable in size to the Thistlegorm wreck.
It lies perfectly on the starboard side depth of 32 meters from the bow site and 29 meters from the stern side. The wreckage has an open front hatch where cars entered the ferry. More advanced divers explore this part of the wreck.
From the bow side of the deck, you will find some interesting elements such as cleats or two winches with chains, on which anchors hang to this day – one on each side of the bow.
But we don’t have to go inside. The majestic hull itself is very interesting, starting from the damaged bow with a huge anchor attached just above the ill-fated crack, through the bridge and deck cloisters, topped with two masts and a funnel with a distinctive emblem, to the stern. At the stern, two giant intact bolts are coraled.

For added security, we may ask you to tell us the room number of your hotel. This acts as a secret code between you and the driver. We may also ask for a phone number in case we need further communication with you.
Transportation time The Transportation time depends on the distance of your hotel and the number of guests. Nevertheless, this will be decided as soon as your reservation is confirmed. In the morning, pick-up is between 06:45 and 08:45. In the afternoon, drop-off is between 15:00 and 17:00.
You don’t need to pay online! The payment you can make upon arrival in our diving center. We accept credit cards (3.5% tax excluded) or cash (preferred currency is Euro).
